BIG SWEEP RAIN OR SHINE

Hello All Randolph County 4-H Club members!

Just a reminder - plan to meet at the Asheboro Randolph YMCA beginning at 9:00 AM tomorrow morning - Saturday, September 26 for BIG SWEEP.

Rain is predicted - but we can still pick up litter in the rain, bring your rain poncho!

We will have light work if everyone will help.

National 4-H Week to be celebrated October 4 - 10, 2009

4-H Featured at NASCAR RACE


Are you a BIG RACING FAN? You won't want to miss the October 4 NASCAR RACE at Kansas Motor Speedway when Jeff Gordon will race the 4-H Car in honor of National 4-H Week!

Jackie Helton, State 4-H Staff Member has been working for many years with the National 4-H Council on making this 4-H Car a reality! It is especially exciting that this is happening during the Centennial of 4-H here in North Carolina.

Kansas Speedway, constructed in 2001, is one of the newest tracks on the NASCAR schedule. This 1.5 mile tri-oval, with 15 degree banking provides race fans in the midwest with exciting racing to enjoy at this modern facility.

Watch this space for more updates prior to the big race!

Randolph County 4-H Volunteer Leaders:

Franklin County Cooperative Extension will be hosting Fall Leader's Day, 2009 in Louisburg, NC on Saturday, November 7, 2009.

During this FALL DAY Meeting, volunteers will attend workshops, enjoy a delicious lunch and meet and greet 4-H volunteer leaders from across the North Central District.

In addition, two scholarship will be extended to NCD 4-H Volunteers to apply for a $100 scholarship to NC 4-H Volunteer Leaders Conference to be held in Raleigh in February and a $25 4-H Leader of the Day gift certificate for National 4-H Supply.

All leaders from Randolph County who would like to participate can attend at NO CHARGE. The Randolph County 4-H United Way account will pay your registration fee.

Youth Fair Approaching


4-H members and leaders are reminded about the 4-H YOUTH FAIR to be held on Saturday, September 19 at the Randolph Mall, Asheboro, beginning at 9:00 AM.

Youth may exhibit up to FIVE items. Judges will sit with each 4-H member and discuss how the 4-H member made each project or exhibit.

The judges will give some feedback to each club member and then assign a white, red or blue ribbon for each project.

The exhibits will then remain on display until 2:00 PM at the Randolph Mall.

Did you participate in Summer Adventures programming in LIBERTY, ASHEBORO, or ARCHDALE? If so, you are invited to participate in the YOUTH FAIR. Maybe you created a pop can lamp, an electric circuit board, a quilt, or a tote bag - any of these projects may be exhibited at the Youth Fair.

The judges will also select their top choices to represent Randolph County 4-H at the NC State Fair.

Hugh Shelton Scholarship

This is one of the USA's most prestigious scholarships for student leaders. It is awarded to an entering freshman, valued at $10,000 per year, renewable upon satisfactory academic progress and leadership involvement. High school seniors should complete the application and mail it so that it arrives in the General H. Hugh Shelton Leadership Center office no later than 5:00 p.m. November 1 of each year.
