Bee Keeping Essay Contest
Calling All 4-H Club Members:
2013 Essay Topic: Reducing the Usage of Bee-Killing Pesticides in my Community
Personal interviews with beekeepers, farmers and others familiar with the subject are valued sources of information and should be documented. Sources, which are not cited in the endnotes, should be listed in a “Resources” or “Bibliography” list.

2013 Essay Topic: Reducing the Usage of Bee-Killing Pesticides in my Community
Pesticides are a fact of modern life, but misuse or overuse of pesticides, or making poor choices when selecting and applying pesticides can be devastating to honey bees and other pollinators.
1. 4-H’ers are encouraged to learn about bee-killing pesticides being used in their communities – by homeowners, businesses, or farmers.
2. Investigate how the impact of those pesticides on honey bees can be lessened.
The scope of the research is an essential judging criterion, accounting for 40% of your score. The number of sources consulted, the authority of the sources, and the variety of the sources are all evaluated.

Honors Night Celebration
Mark your calendar, it is time for our 4-H Honor's Night Celebration!

Where: First Presbyterian Church, Asheboro, NC
When: Meal at 6:00 PM
Program at 7:00 PM
All families must RSVP their attendance at this event, so we have an accurate number for meal preparation.

4-H Club Officer Training Planned
Beginning at 9:30 AM, we will meet and learn how to conduct a 4-H business meeting, keep secretarial minutes, manage the finances and work together with the other club officers.
Any youth 8 years and older is welcome to join us. We will conclude our training at noon.
