Each summer, North Carolina Cooperative Extension, Randolph County Center plans 4-H Summer Adventure Programs for youth in the following locations: Asheboro, Liberty and Archdale.
These classes are educational, recreational and FUN!

4-H Centennial Homecoming Event is Planned
As you know, 4-H is celebrating its centennial this year! You are cordially invited to attend our Statewide Centennial Celebration!

Citizenship NC Focus
Citizenship North Carolina Focus:
A Capital Experience and Service Opportunity for Military Kids
When: June 15-19, 2009, Raleigh, NC
Who: 200 North Carolina 4-H and/or military teens and identified adult partners, selected by application.
What: Dynamic learning focused upon civic engagement, understanding state government, and participating in volunteer service activities
When: Monday, June 15 – Wednesday, June 17 Capital Experience;
Wednesday, June 17 – Friday, June 19 Service Opportunities
Where: Sheraton Downtown and other local sites in Raleigh, NC
Why: To inspire engaged citizenship and to foster an ethic of service
Participants are expected to:
~ Be at least 14 years old as of January 1, 2009
~ Demonstrate interest in citizen involvement and/or local issues
~ Have experience and/or interest in speaking before groups of peers
~ Take a leadership role in their communities
~ Wear business attire during the June 15-17 Citizenship event
~ Attend the entire weeklong event
~ Actively engage in service projects during the June 17-19 Volunteer activities
~ Gather key information about local issues and government operations in
advance of the conference

Free Camping Opportunities
Are you a military family? If so, I have some good news for you. 4-H is making some free camping opportunities available to you!
Operation Purple Camp: Ages 8-16 yrs
Where: Camp Swannanoa, Asheville NC
This camp is for families in a 15 month deployment window. To register click on the following link!
The registration deadline is coming up soon (April 20th) so you need
to sign up soon if interested. The dates for this camp are
Aug 2-7th, 2009. If a family is not in a deployment window,
they can still sign up but will be considered later in
priority.
Operation Military Kid/Cloverbud Camp: Ages 5-8 yrs
This camp does not have any deployment guidelines. Any child in a military
family is welcome to register. Contact Barb at the Extension Office for camp application forms for this camp.
Another camp is the 2009 NC Operation Military Kids Amazing Drama Experience

4-H Spring Community Service Project
As you know - 4-H members in Randolph County are committed to helping our community in a variety of ways! The next project is being announced today!
We are assisting Happy Hills Animal Foundation in Staley, NC. This non-profit organization is in need of the following items: Canned Dog Food, Canned Cat Food, Bleach, Mops, Brooms, Trash Bags, Dish Detergent, Laundry Detergent, Dog Toys, Cat Toys, Dry Puppy Food, Dry Kitten Food, Towels and Office Supplies. If you would like to assist Randolph County 4-H with this project you may drop off donations at the extension office, 112 W. Walker Avenue in Asheboro or you may bring it to our 4-H Fashion Review - Entertains Program on May 14.
