Junior 4-H Camp


If you are a youth 8 - 15 years of age, you are eligible to attend 4-H camp at Swannanoa 4-H Campiing center near Asheville. Randolph County 4-H will take 6 boys and 6 girls to camp June 21 - June 26. You do not have to be a member of 4-H to attend camp.

Cost for camp is just $300 and includes lodging, food, transportation and all program materials.

If you like to hike, swim, participate in archery, crafts and meet new friends, then camp is for you!

A $50 dollar non-refundable deposit will hold your spot at camp this summer!

4-H Centennial Ball Game Scheduled




Join Randolph County 4-H and many surrounding counties for night of fun at a Winston-Salem Dash Baseball Game on Friday, June 5th.Come and celebrate 100 years of 4-H with family and friends!

4-H will be throwing out the first pitch and members will be selected to give the 4-H pledge at the ballgame!

Tickets must be purchased by April 30.

All 4-H club members and their families are invited to participate.

If your 4-H club would like to participate, please let us know.

Tickets are just $10.00 each and include a souvenir team hat!

Tickets for the game will be available the day of the game at the WILL CALL OFFICE. A special window for 4-H members will be made available.

Horse Workshops Offered

Horse Educational Series Announced
North Carolina Cooperative Extension and Davie County Large Animal Hospital are co-sponsoring a series of educational programs starting in February. The programs will be as follows:

February 21:
Pasture Management and Poisonous Plants – Phil Rucker
Nutrition – Dr. Tim Potter
Water Issues – Amy Thomas
Plant Toxicity, Laminitis, Grass Founder and Metabolic Syndrome – Dr. Jim Meeker

March 21:
Fencing – Phil Rucker
First Aid – Dr. Jim Meeker
Turn Out Management – Dr. Tim Potter

April 25:
Evaluation of Conformation, Form to Function – Dr. Tim Potter
Lameness Issues Related to Conformation – Dr. Tim Meeker
Shoeing – Joel Hunt

Dates for the fall are September 19, October 24 and November 21, topics and speakers to be determined.

4-H Honors Night is scheduled




Mark Friday night, February 27 on your calendar and plan to join us for the annual HONORS NIGHT Celebration to be held at First Presbyterian Church in Asheboro. A spaghetti dinner will be served beginning at 6:30 followed by our awards program!

The theme for our 2009 Honors Night Celebration is: Randolph County 4-H CAN DO! With our CAN DO attitude we will collect CANS of FOOD for Christians United Outreach Food Pantry! 4-H club members and their families are asked to bring cans of food to be donated! If you would like to get this collection started, you may drop your cans of food off at our office now!

We will also celebrate the 100th anniversary of 4-H in North Carolina with a birthday cake celebration! We have ordered 4-H Centennial t-shirts and they have arrived. If you would like to purchase a 4-H t-shirt, they are $8 each and we have them here at the Extension Office. In addition, we will sell the shirts at our Honors Night program too!

All club members and their families are invited to participate, however reservation must be made by calling 318-6000 and letting us know how many from your family will join us!

2009 NC 4-H Performing Arts Troupe

In recognition of the North Carolina 4-H Centennial, we are pleased to announce that in 2009 4-H’ers and leaders from across the state will have the opportunity to be involved in a new version of the 4-H Performing Arts Troupe.

Current 4-H members ages 12-18 will have the opportunity to audition for the 30-40 performing roles in the Troupe.

4-H’ers who are more interested in the technical components of the show can apply to work with our technical staff in the areas of costumes, props, set, lighting and sound.

Costs: There will be a $300 participant fee for all 4-H aged performers and technical students to cover the cost of the rehearsal weekend in May and the weekend rehearsals before Congress. There will be no participant fee for adult leaders. All performers, technical students and adult volunteers must register for Congress which requires an additional registration fee to cover room and meals for the Congress week.

4-H Centennial T-Shirts Are Here




Dear Randolph County 4-H members,

We have received our shipment of Randolph County 4-H Centennial green t-shirts. We ordered shirts in the following sizes:

Youth - SMALL, MEDIUM and LARGE

Adult - SMALL, MEDIUM, LARGE, XLARGE, XXLARGE

The cost of each shirt is just $8. We will have them for sale at our 4-H Honors Night Celebration on Friday - February 27 at First Presbyterian Church.

You can also stop by our office and purchase a t-shirt. We are located at 112 W. Walker Ave. Asheboro.
